There are some situations in our lives when we inevitably face some taugh question or statement, answer it, but after some time we think of an answer that could suit better in that particular situation or maybe that answer could show us in a better light. When you finally find out that answer, probably after doing some homework on the issue or talking to the people working in that sphere, you feel angry as you where not witty enough to answer like that at that time.
I'm not an exeption and I have similar experience too. About a year ago me and colleague started making sites for companies in Kazan. On average we charged 550-560 USD for our work, which included development of unique design of the site and our own CMS. So after yet another visit to the office of the company we were building site for, CEO of the daughter company reached us on the corridor of the building and asked us what was the price for our work. We responded that if nothing special was needed, like flash animation or else, we would carge 570 USD. His was surprised to hear that number and told us:"Guys, how can you take that amount of money for your work, if you are not a site building company from Moscow?". To clear the situation, in Moscow prices for sites started from 1000 USD upwards. In Kazan you could purchase a site for a company for 150 USD. I do not recall exactly what my colleague Pavel said in reply. But about an our ago two thoughts came to my mind.
First. One cannot divide companies, be it design studios or other companies, into Moscow company and non-Moscow company. There are only good companies and bad companies, and it does not matter where their offices are located. That is the idea of Artemiy Lebedev. Second. You cannot and should not set a cost of your work according to market conditions. That one is Henry Ford's. Now I think if only I could tell that CEO these two statements at that time...
